Carbon nanotubes to filter water

If this does come about, the idea that the carbon nanotube can be small enough to let a water molecule in, while keeping the much larger bacteria/viruses/compounds out would be fantastic.
They are right, making water filtration cheap and easy would lead to a lot of solutions in the 3rd world.
I want to see something happen. Clean fresh water, desalination systems that are cost effective and have minimal footprint would be fantastic.
Then we can set up to the other problems, once food/shelter/water are resolved.
