I am now, have been and will be wrong

Yet again, I've been wrong on little new technologies in the wind area.

 

I did not realize that is was this far along.

 

I had seen the news articles on using irregular sufaces, like those found on whale fins, to increase the capabilities of wind blades.  But didn't think it could be close to VC investment.

 

Maybe it's ready now, maybe it's past the early stage VC rounds.

 

On a larger matter, using biomimicry as a foundation for new technology makes sense.  nature may not find the optimal solution, but after thousands of years of trial, nature does come up with some very good answers.  And many of these answers are complex, but only because they involve many smaller/simpler steps.  Rarely does nature invent something out the blue.  Most things are adaptions of already existing answers, and genes.  Only repurposed.

 

Filtration will be one other area where nature has us beat.

 

Also energy production. 

 

We try to make power from the sun, using a lot of rare metals, or toxic heavy metals.  Look at a leaf.  It can make sugar from sunpower without the same cocktail of substances.

 

Not easy, but we can't say it is impossible.
