Ethanol glut

NY Times article on the coming glut of corn and ethanol in the US.

Well market forces are at work again. There was a lack of ethanol sources, now there were too many plants that broke ground, and add a huge crop harvest expected, and while there will be more ethanol, it will be difficult to ship out from the mid-west.

And what will you do with the wet distiller's grain? Dry it? That costs energy, and then you still have to ship the stuff to something that'll eat it.

Ethanol is still just an additive, not a replacement fuel. This is the goal of bio-fuel, actually having a replacement fuel from biowaste products.

But for now, ethanol is showing where it falls down.

What happens when all of your commodity prices go in the wrong direction?

What about the incentives? Where will they go, and who really gets to cash those checks?

Everyone is trying to cash in on a big payday, but more money needs to be spent, and after it is spent, will it have been worth it? No.

The economics won't support it.
