Empty Chair Test

Finding good people is the hardest part of this entrepreneurship.

In determining who's the right person to work with, look at the chair next to you. What type of person do you want to have sitting there with you as the CFO, CIO, VP sales, etc.

If there's someone you can envision as being in that chair, then it's better to hire that person than not. But if the person sitting in that chair is doing more harm than good, then sometimes it's better to have an empty chair. Do this before hiring, it gets harder afterwards.

Finally, take a look at yourself, see if you're in the right chair. Look at the people you hire and see if they're sitting in the right chairs.

If someone's not in the best place for them, the kindest thing to do is let them go.
